Transformer procurement scenario
The Pressure-Relief Device Operated—Resetting It Was Not the First Decision
Send the PRD type, contact duty, discharge direction and calibration-document requirements for drawing review.
The moment the missing scope appeared
A site engineer found the pressure-relief indicator operated and oil traces nearby. Schedule pressure created an immediate suggestion: “reset it and continue.” A commissioning engineer asked a more important question—what pressure condition operated it?
Why the shortcut was dangerous
The device releases pressure; it does not repair the initiating event. Treating the indicator as the problem confuses evidence with cause. The event may need inspection of oil level, leakage, Buchholz indications, DGA and electrical protection records.
What the engineering evidence says
A PRD responds to internal pressure. A Buchholz relay responds to gas accumulation or oil movement. They can operate during the same event, but they do not duplicate one another. The discharge path and electrical contact also need to be designed before the equipment reaches site.
How TransformerGrid structures the review
TransformerGrid checks PRD type, quantity, contact duty, installation direction, discharge routing, calibration records and FAT points against the project drawings.
